From clerical and technical jobs to positions in management, the Hamilton Police Service has many challenging Civilian Career Opportunities, with top-notch salaries and benefit packages. We currently employ more than 360 civilian members – about 35 per cent of our workforce.
Part-Time Pools
Part-time staff are hired to provide vacation, pregnancy/parental leave, and/or other relief to full-time staff who are not at work. The majority of our employees work up to with many of our members work up to 12 hours per shift over a 24/7 period.Hamilton Police Service is considered an essential service and operates365 day/year.
Part-time staff are hired to a pool and assigned to positions as operational required. All applicants must be prepared to work shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and public holidays. Positons are generally not suitable for students and successful candidates are not permitted to work full time – elsewhere and work for Hamilton Police Service.

A pass is 2 minutes and 37 seconds or less for the pursuit portion; the shuttle run is not required for Special Constable Candidates.

Once candidates are hired by the Police Service, they are eligible to apply for all internal Civilian vacancies within the Service.
Most of our external Civilian vacancies are for part-time and temporary full-time opportunities. Part-time and temporary full-time members are paid a flat hourly rate, plus an additional 14 per cent in lieu of benefits and 4 per cent vacation pay on each pay.
